IPL Treatment

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy is a treatment where concentrated beams of light are used to treat the skin. IPL rejuvenates the appearance of the skin by treating issues beneath the surface. IPL can be done with different wavelengths of light, each best suited for treating different skin concerns.

The longer the wavelength of light, the deeper the treatment can penetrate. The concentrated light also stimulates the body’s natural collagen production which helps with skin cell turnover and regeneration.

What Concerns Can be Treated with IPL?

IPL can be used to accurately target a number of skin concerns. Some of the common concerns include:

  • Acne
  • Pigmentation
  • Sun damage
  • Vascular lesions
  • Redness
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven skin texture

IPL For The Face

One of the most popular treatment areas for IPL is the face. IPL facials area non-invasive treatment option for common facial skin concerns like rosacea, redness, uneven skin texture, sun damage and acne.

IPL For The Chest

IPL can be used to treat the delicate check and neck area for a more youthful appearance. The skin here is very sensitive and is often prone to sun damage and early signs of aging. IPL can address concerns like sunspots, age spots, freckles, redness and hyperpigmentation.

IPL For The Hands

IPL is a great treatment option for rejuvenating the hands. Our hands are one of the first places that give away our age, having been exposed to sun damage and heavy wear and tear over time. IPL can treat sun damage, age spots, hyperpigmentation and uneven skin texture.

What to Expect From Your IPL Treatment

1

Before your appointment

Before your first IPL treatment in Ottawa, you’ll come in for a consultation so we can determine your eligibility for treatment and recommend a treatment plan. Most patients typically require 4-6 sessions of IPL therapy for best results.
2

On the day of your treatment

On the day of your treatment, we’ll start by cleansing the treatment area and applying a topical numbing cream. IPL is not painful but some clients report a slight discomfort so the numbing cream ensures the treatment is comfortable. The actual treatment itself takes only 10-20 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area.
3

after your treatment

Afterwards, you’ll be given post-care instructions. We advise you to avoid hot showers or baths for 48 hours afterwards, as well as avoiding exfoliation and using only gentle skincare products for 7 days post treatment.

FAQ

IPL treatments are not painful but there may be some slight discomfort depending on your pain tolerance. We always offer the option of a topical numbing cream to ensure your treatment is as comfortable as possible.

There’s no downtime required after IPL, but your skin will be sensitive for a few days post treatment. We recommend avoiding hot baths and showers for 48 hours, and use only gentle skincare products (no exfoliation or acid ingredients) for a week post-treatment. We also recommend avoiding sun exposure for at least 4 weeks after IPL.

Your results will depend on your overall skin condition and skin type, as well as which skin concern you’re having treated. Most clients require 4-6 IPL treatments, spaced several weeks apart for best results.

We’re here to help! We offer a wide range of skin treatments, so if you’re unsure about which treatment is best for you, come in for a consultation.
