While laser hair removal results are long-lasting, they are not permanent. Laser hair removal can reduce hair growth up to 80% and make hair in the area much finer and slower-growing. We encourage our clients to come in for touch-ups when they notice hair growth is starting to increase over time.
Laser hair removal is a non-invasive procedure that does not cause any pain. You may feel a slight heating of the skin, and the laser produces a sensation that is similar to an elastic band snapping against the skin. It is not painful, however some patients may find it slightly uncomfortable.
After your treatment, you may experience a little redness, swelling or tenderness of the skin. You can place a cold compress on the area to soothe any redness or swelling. We recommend wearing loose, breathable clothing. You’ll be able to resume normal activities right away, but it’s important to avoid exposing the area to the sun.
We recommend approximately 6-10 sessions per area of hair removal, but it will vary depending on the patient’s skin tone, hair colour and the size of the area being treated. Hair can only be removed by the laser during the anagen (growth) phase, so we will schedule the sessions 6-8 weeks apart since body hair grows in varying cycles. This will ensure that each session we are targeting hair that can be effectively removed.
Most people will see a 10-25% reduction in hair growth after the first session. As your sessions progress, you’ll have less and less hair growing in the area. Over time, you will notice the hair in the area is greatly reduced and what is left is finer and slower-growing.
We’re here to help! If you have any questions about whether laser hair removal is right for you, we encourage you to book a consultation with us. We can answer your questions and assess the treatment area to determine your eligibility for laser hair removal.
Laser technology offers several advantages over IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) for cosmetic and medical procedures. Unlike IPL, lasers emit a focused and precise wavelength of light, allowing for targeted treatment of specific skin concerns. The coherent, monochromatic light of lasers provides concentrated energy, resulting in more effective and efficient treatments. Laser light penetrates the skin at a specific depth, enabling treatment of specific skin layers with minimal impact on surrounding areas. Additionally, lasers are generally safer due to their precise targeting, minimizing the risk of adverse effects. Therefore, when considering cosmetic or medical treatments, laser technology is often preferred for its superior precision, effectiveness, and safety compared to IPL.
